Sunday rehearsals deserve a snack at break time! EVERYONE should sign up for at least 1 week to bring snacks for the choir. If you can do more, please do! These will be distributed weekly by choir coordinators during break time at rehearsal.

Friday, Dec. 5 - New York Voices pre-concert performance, time confirmed
HYC has been asked to provide singing in the lobby for Civic Music Association’s visiting performers, NEW YORK VOICES! This internationally renowned vocal jazz group is truly incredible, and we are so grateful to be setting the musical the mood for their concert. All HYC Chamber singers receive a FREE ticket for the show, and family/friends can receive a 30% discount on tickets by signing up HERE
This is a required performances, and any absences need to be communicated to Mr. Gookin ASAP.
When: Fri. Dec. 5th - Call Time 6:00pm - Chamber performs @ 6:30pm, New York Voices performs @ 7:30pm singers are expected to stay for the full performance of this incredible vocal group!
Where: Staplin Auditorium Lobby @ Valley High School - 3650 Woodland Ave, West Des Moines, IA 50266 - We will meet in the CHOIR ROOM to warm up before performing., just across from the auditorium. Coordinators will help direct students to the correct room. We will then be performing in the lobby prior to NY Voices’ show.
Wearing: Formal Uniforms (Black Baxter top, and black bottoms/shoes, hair out of face, no jewelry).
Bring: Water, and HYC black binder
Sunday, Dec. 7 - WHLC Advent Service
As is our tradition for many years, HYC has been asked to sing a few songs for our host church, WHLC’s special advent service. This is DURING normal rehearsal but we will head up stairs to offer the gift of music for a small part of their service. Singers should still arrive at their normal rehearsal time prior to performance. This is also our LAST REHEARSAL of the first semester!
When: Sun. Dec. 7, perform 4:00-4:30pm (normal rehearsal time still applies for T/B and S/A)
Where: Windsor Heights Lutheran Church Sanctuary
Wearing: Formal Uniform (Black Baxter top, and black bottoms/shoes, hair out of face, no jewelry).
Sun. Dec. 14 - WinterSongs
HYC’s WinterSongs concert is always a highlight of the year, and our highest attend concert! Tickets are required for friends and family, and are available on the website under “Tickets and Concerts” or to the side here.
When: Call Time 1:00pm - go to BASEMENT - Concert 4:00p - doors open 3:30p
Where: Sheslow Auditorium @ Drake University, 2507 University Ave. Des Moines, IA
Wearing: FORMAL Uniform (black baxter top, black bottoms, and black shoes) hair out of face, no jewelry or bows.
Bring: Water bottle if desired, but water snacks will be provided.

Wed. Dec 17 - Hoyt Sherman Holiday Open House
This FREE event is sure to be a fun one! Singers will be providing the entertainment for the evening alongside the many offerings of food, drink, and SANTA at Hoyt Sherman.
When: Call time 4:00pm (please let us know if you will be late due to school dismissal time). Sound check 4:00-4:45pm.
Dinner will be provided (Jimmy Johns) backstage for singers from 5:00-5:50pm
Performance at 6:00pm, Pick up at approx 7:15pm
Where: Hoyt Sherman Place, 1501 Woodland Ave, Des Moines, IA 50314. Drop off at the doors labeled “Center for Artists and Education” just north of the box office on the east side of the building.

Italy Tour 2026 - Passports - for confirmed travelers
If your singer does not currently have a US PASSPORT please be sure to start the process for application NOW. Passports should be in your possession 6-months prior to travel (aka December 2025) so don’t wait! First time, mionr children must apply in person, and often need an appointment. Please review travel guidelines and passport processing online and get it done as soon as you can.
