How to Join HYC

Heartland Youth Choir welcomes singers in grades PK–12 who love singing, learning, and making new friends. No prior choir experience is required, just a willingness to participate, grow, and have fun!

With rehearsal locations in Windsor Heights, HYC North (Ankeny), and HYC East (Mitchellville), HYC offers six progressive choir levels designed to help singers build confidence, musicianship, and lasting friendships in a supportive community. Full and partial scholarships are available, and no family is turned away due to financial constraints.

Getting Started is Simple

1. Explore Our Choirs
Visit our Choirs page to find the ensemble that matches your child’s grade level and experience.

2. Placement Session (Grades 3+)
Singers entering Cantilena (3-5), Chanté (4-7), Cantemus (6-8), or Chamber (8-12) will participate in a brief, supportive placement session to ensure the best musical fit. Singers in Musical Explorers - Cadet (ages 4-6) and Canto (K-2) may register directly.

3. Complete Registration
Once placement is complete (if required), families may complete online registration for the season.
